The South West Miramichi Community Access Centre hosted a two-hour Creative Writing Workshop on Thursday, September 8. The session, conducted by New Brunswick writer Kellie Underhill, was a great success with 16 participants in attendance.

Community Access Centre Day 2005

Community Access Centre Day is an annual event at all centers in New Brunswick to promote the services we offer.

An inviting day with decorations, delicious cake and refreshments, was held at our centre on Saturday, January 22, 2005. Visitors received free promotional items, and a draw for a cordless phone was won by Amie Hayes of Renous.

Thank you to everyone who bought tickets for our annual lottery. Provincial lottery winners are posted at our centre. Many thanks to volunteers and visitors who made this day a great success.

Marian Shrine Fundraising Event

Souvenir Provided of the Lady of Mount Carmel Marian Shrine: On Sunday, July 11, 2004, the Centre provided a souvenir of postcards and glass framed pictures to visitors and local parishioners who attended an outdoor mass at the Lady of Mount Carmel Shrine, Howard, New Brunswick.

This church was built in 1836 and is the oldest Catholic Church in continuous use in the Diocese of Saint John. On July 19th, in the Marian Year of 1987 Bishop J.E. Troy proclaimed the Church in Howard to be the official Marian Shrine of the Saint John Diocese. An outdoor altar was constructed to accommodate pilgrims of the three Marian Feasts, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in July, The Assumption in August, and The Immaculate Conception in September.

Mass was offered by Rev. Vincent J. Donovan, pastor and Bishop Joseph Faber MacDonald. We would like to thank everyone who purchased souvenirs, which was a terrific fundraiser for the centre.

Canada Day 2004 Fundraiser

Canada Day 2004 was enjoyed in Blackville with a great attended parade. Fun-filled events, local entertainment, and a barbecue were held at the beautiful village park.

The Centre participated with a display of historical and present day community pictures and postcards as a fundraiser for the centre. Mary McCormack, centre worker and steering committee volunteer, Leslie McLaughlin were pleased with the sales of the day and of course, the conversation piece old pictures always create.

Community Access Centre Day 2004

The 4th New Brunswick Community Access Centre Day was held January 27, 2004 throughout New Brunswick. All centers welcomed visitors and promoted their services.

A provincial lottery, which is our annual fund raiser, was held again this year with 1st prize going to Samantha Brennan of Miramichi, winner of an HP Computer. 2nd prize of a Canon Digital Camera went to Kevin Lavallee of Moncton, and 9 prizes of a Palm M500 Electronic Agenda were won throughout New Brunswick. Ticket sales were great this year, thanks to the Blackville Credit Union for allowing sale of this lottery to be placed at their business. Our centre prize for the day, a Cordless Phone, went to Cheryl Buggie of Renous. The provincial on-line draw for an HP Photosmart 435 Digital Camera went to Sylvio Theriault from St-Quentin. "Congratulations" to all the winners and "Thank You" to everyone who purchased tickets.

Centre worker, Mary McCormack would like to thank volunteers for their time and everyone who dropped by the centre to make this another successful Community Access Centre Day.
